Broken Radio just hosted Sax man Hermann Lara in session with none other than legendary guitarist Mike Stern. Stern was in town playing at Yoshi’s in Oakland and hooked up with Lara for this very exciting session. Also in attendance were veteran bassist Curtis Ohlson, drummer Jim Bove, keyboardist Greg Sankovich, and of course Hermann Lara on Sax. Matt Boudreau engineered. The session was expertly captured in picture form by David Erdelyi which can be viewed here. David does a killer job. Check out his other photo work @ http://prosight.smugmug.com/

On November 18th we hosted a microphone listening party with our friends at Cutting Edge Audio and Lauten Audio, makers of an excellent line of microphones that we use at Broken Radio all of the time and San Francisco singer/songwriter Chi McClean . The event was expertly documented by Matthew Mcglynn of Recording Hacks. Read about the event here.

Keith Urban and his band were in town playing the Fillmore this past March and stopped in Broken Radio to  record material for an exclusive release on iTunes that’s soon to be released. Road cases and many crew filled the building. Producer/engineer Justin Niebank and his right hand man Drew Bollman flew out from Nashville to man the controls. Justin has worked with Keith for sometime as well as George Strait, Rascall Flatts and Taylor Swift. Justin and Drew were assisted by Carly Benham and Paul Simmans of Broken Radio.

Producer/engineer Justin Niebank had this to say about the studio….“I really enjoyed the studio and, guess what, it ended up sounding freakin great.  That room can really handle being filled up with a band playing. Thanks again for all the help (your staff was very cool, by the way)”.

Matt Boudreau of Broken Radio had this to say….“Keith and the band sounded incredible and couldn’t have been nicer people, plus they are such incredible players it would blow your mind!”

Tower meets Tony

Broken Radio recently had the honor of hosting Strokeland recording artist Tony Adamo and the incredible power of Stephen ‘Doc’ Kupka, Tom E. Politizer and Mic Gillette all members and former members of Tower of Power. Guitarist/Producer Jerry Stucker kept everyone in line and with engineer Matt Boudreau captured an amazing event. The historic session was photographed by famed photographer, Mark Leialoha. From left to right: Doc Kupa, Tony Adamo, Georgine Banks, Tom Politzer, Mic Gillette, Matt Boudreau, Jerry Stucker.

Mary O’Toole has been a long time client at Broken Radio. Mary doesn’t have a band nor is she a solo artist in the traditional sense. Mary tells stories. She has a new website launched http://www.wonderfulshortstories.com. She sells recordings of these stories and if your looking for something a little different for your iPod this is pretty cool.
